‘Fluff it anyway!’ I glared at Cullen. ‘I don’t like to admit that I’m wrong and you’re right but … maybe Jennifer is a suspect.’

On the count of three, Cullen and I ripped open the door separating the attic from the office below. Pointing my wand, I cried, ‘Conáil,’ before I jumped down into the room. I didn’t make the most graceful of landings, it must be said. But I didn’t break anything, so I was going to consider it a success.

‘Valerian?’ Jennifer frowned. My freezing spell wasn’t extremely strong. They couldn’t scarper, but they could talk. I wouldn’t be able to hold them for long with that spell, so I reached into my bag and placed my hand on my ropes. If they made a move, I’d be ready. ‘And … the guy who runs the Bank?’
